Raika camel herders rest beneath the trees in Rajasthan, India, dressed in the distinctive white clothing and vivid red turbans associated with their pastoral community. Also known as Rabari or Rebari, the Raika have bred and tended camels across Rajasthan’s arid landscapes for generations. Their relationship with the camel is more than an occupation: it forms part of a centuries-old cultural identity and a pastoral way of life increasingly challenged by social and economic change.
