"There are few greater privileges than knowing your work has connected with someone you've never met. Whether it's an editor who trusted me with an assignment, a reader who recognised something of themselves in a story, or someone who simply took the time to write, those messages remind me why I do what I do.
Journalism can be a solitary profession. Long hours of research, travel and writing happen quietly, often without knowing how a story will be received. It's only when the emails begin to arrive that you realise your words have travelled further than you ever could.
