Uhu Villa

“Uhu – its’ the haunting sound of the owls which live in the woods fringing the villa,” says Simona Bazzani (41), the proprietor of Uhu Villa, an elegant 1920’s hide-away sitting proudly in the tranquil hills overlooking Buda amidst an immense landscaped garden and formerly home to a famed Hungarian movie director.

Uhu’s superb interiors and harmonious colours merge to create an ambience of gracious serenity, leaving one with a sense of lavish comfort and panache. A truly splendid backdrop for romance and relaxation.

The villa has been decorated with care, like the charming sitting rooms with beamed ceilings, in muted tones of Ferrari beige and raw cotton, with corridors in sand, and suites in clotted cream, and tastefully enhanced with antiques and old prints.

Uhu boasts thirteen generous, distinctively well-dressed and refined rooms, two senior suites, and four junior suites are also available. Four rooms have a private balcony, offering valley views across Budapest. Although traditionally styled, each room has modern amenities such as wireless \internet access, satellite TV, air-conditioning, and a mini-bar. The bathrooms are spacious, containing bidets and bath tubs.

Uhu’s dining room must quite simply be the most romantic restaurant in all of Budapest and could only be described as a gastronomic experience for the most discerning palette.

Head chef, Janos Regeni (36), had an animated discussion with a fellow dinner guest, describing his romance with food. He passionately detailed what he searched for in his ingredients and explained that his produce is sourced from all over the world, using only biodynamic foodstuffs. Regeni received his training in top establishments, including the Relais and the Chateaux of Austria, with numerous top French Chef’s influencing his development.

Regeni’s creations may be savored either in the serene surroundings of the elegant dining room, to the soft flirtatious crooning of Frank Sinatra or served by attentive staff on Uhu’s terrace, which has sweeping views across the surrounding country-side.

A carefully selected range of approximately forty Hungarian and Italian wines are also available (eg. Gere Cabarnet Sauvignon Barrique, Thummerer Vili Papa Cuvée. Heimann Cervaes Cuvée, Szent Gaál Passionata Cabarnet Franc, Obsessio Merlot, St. Andrea Merengõ) but as with the dinner menu, the selection changes frequently.  “Returning customers all have their own favourites, we try to stock them as much as possible and also do our best to recommend wines based on their preferences,” says Bazzani, the proprietor.

Uhu Villa is located some 35 minutes drive from Ferihegy International Airport and around 15 minutes to the City Center.

Uhu Villa offers luxury travellers the very best in romantic settings - a heaven of silence, revitalising the soul, with courteous and unobtrusive staff anticipating your every need. A weekend break at the Uhu Villa is a truly splendid experience – for the mind, body and soul.
